Description

A highly-regarded malt distillery in Speyside and the second built by William Grant & Sons. The distillery is still owned by the company today, its brand has been nurtured to become one of the most recognisable and sought-after single malts in the world. The Balvenie PortWood 21 Year Old is a marriage of rare Balvenie whiskies, carefully finished in 30-year-old port pipes for added depth and finesse. First released in 1996, it remains a standout example of balance and refinement – offering soft fruit, warming spice and a long, elegant finish.

Nose
Elegant, with notes of white peach, honey, sultana, macadamia, and subtle balsamic and cola cubes. Rich dried fruit, vanilla, and warming spice are also present, alongside a nutty dryness and hints of cinnamon, apples, licorice, and plums.
Palate
Creamy and silky, offering cranberries, cooked raspberries, white grape juice, and barley. Sweet dried cherry, cinnamon, toffee, oak, and nutmeg are complemented by honey, fruit, and spice notes.
Finish
Long and luscious, with dried fruit and gentle tannin. It is also described as gentle, nutty, and light, with honeyed oak notes, slightly bitter nuts, and walnuts, lingering with wine-like notes and baking spice.
