Description

A malt distillery that forms the Highland region representation in Diageo's Classic Malts of Scotland collection. The highest and coldest in Scotland, its unique setting and distilling practices all contribute to the production of a spirit that has been highly prized by blenders over the years. This Dalwhinnie 1990 Distillers Edition is a double-matured Highland single malt, initially matured in traditional oak casks before a second maturation in Oloroso sherry casks, adding depth, richness, and gentle spice to the spirit.

Nose
Fresh Oloroso notes, malty, honeyed, and heathery, with tropical fruits like guava, mango, papaya, and pineapple, alongside hints of lemon, ginger, blackcurrants, plums, red berries, and a creamy, spicy, and woody character.
Palate
A spicy buzz with well-defined malt, a quick burst of sweetness, and rich grapey notes. Flavors of fresh tropical fruit, honey, toasted coconut, and nutmeg mingle with candied orange peels, bitter citrus pith, and a light pepper bite. Hints of lemon, pineapple, ginger, cherries, stewed plums, raisins, and orange peel are present, alongside creamy, peppery, and woody undertones.
Finish
Long and warming, with prominent oak, vanilla, and a dry character. Lingering sweetness, nutty notes, and warming spices like black pepper, cloves, and Christmas spice are present, alongside a clean, malty, and elegantly drying oak-spice finish.
