Description

The Famous Grouse Gold Reserve is exceptionally crafted from specially selected casks of the finest malt and grain whiskies, including The Macallan and Highland Park. This outstanding blend has been aged for 12 years in oak casks to develop a unique richness and depth of flavour characterised by the unsurpassed smoothness that is the hallmark of the "Silk of Scotland" [cite: Just Whisky Auctions]. The brand, created in 1896 by Mathew Gloag, was initially called the Grouse Blend, with the 'Famous' prefix added in 1905 [cite: Scotch Whisky Auctions]. Pleasant lightly oaky vanilla, baked apple peels, sweeter oaky chardonnay, hint of orange, light honeyed sweet brioche, very faint maraschino cherry.
Palate
Lightly honeyed filtered apple cider, oaked viognier-like sweetness, extremely light creamy port or sherry influence, ginger spice on the back palate right near the end.
Finish
Lightly bittersweet like that of an apple juice made entirely of pressed apple peels, hint of pomelo/orange pith bitterness and a fain backend oakiness.
