Description

This is a stunning 70-year-old single malt whisky from the Glen Grant distillery, independently bottled by Gordon & MacPhail as part of their 'Private Collection' series. Distilled in 1948 and matured in a single first-fill sherry butt, it is considered the oldest Glen Grant expression ever bottled by Gordon & MacPhail. This ultra-rare release was bottled in 2018, yielding only 210 decanters worldwide. It is presented in an exquisitely engraved, hand-blown crystal decanter within a wooden presentation case.

Nose
Initially sweet with vanilla fudge, strawberry, and raspberry nuances developing into thick apricot jam. Waxy polish aromas mix with cinnamon and candied orange peel, complemented by gentle, lingering smoky traces and a subtle, fresh mint note. Herbal-citrus notes of mandarin and spearmint are present, along with older, earthier notes of vintage books and polished leather. [2, 7]
Palate
Smooth and expressive, with subtle Sherry-soaked fruit flavors fusing with fresh orange zest and cardamom undertones. A slightly dried herbal element develops into mouth-warming cracked black pepper and aniseed. Cinnamon, oak, strawberry, and apricot jam are present, with herbal undertones of earthy, wet-grass notes and aged dry leather. [2, 6, 7]
Finish
A smooth, long, lingering finish introduces elegant charred oak and flashes of citrus. More noticeable woodsmoke than the nose and palate, with a residual citrus note and a hint of mint towards the end. Lingering aniseed, orange liqueur, and tobacco, with a whisper of cocoa powder. [2, 6, 7]
