Description

Still in family hands since it was founded, the Glenfarclas Distillery is one of Speyside's independent whisky producers. The Grant family has been running Glenfarclas since 1860, producing an individual Speyside malt. This 1968 vintage is part of 'The Family Casks' range, a series of single cask, vintage single malts. It was drawn from a single sherry butt and bottled in 2010, after aging for 42 years.

Nose
Powerful, malty, buttery glaze, packing material storehouse. Layers of sweet fruits like mirabelles, redcurrant marmalade, tangerine, raspberry jelly, with darker notes of dried fruits (dates, raisins), chocolate, and toffee. Spices, oak polish, cigar boxes, mint, eucalyptus, and a hint of dusty oak and old leather.
Palate
Firm attack, woody notes, prunes, dark chocolate, cold coffee, with hints of meat sauce, mint, pepper, fig, and blackcurrant jam. Increasingly dry, taking all liquid out of the mouth but leaving flavor.
Finish
Long, drying, with lingering fruits.
