Description

Highland Park Hjarta is a special edition 12-year-old cask strength single malt Scotch whisky, bottled in 2009 at 58.1% ABV. It was produced for the Scandinavian market, with 'Hjarta' meaning 'heart' in Nordic languages, and was launched to celebrate the refurbishment of the Highland Park visitor centre. This limited edition consisted of 3,924 bottles and was matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, with a 20% higher share of first-fill sherry casks than the standard 12-year-old.

Nose
Glorious combination of spice and heather, caramelised pineapple and fresh lemon peel with delicate smoke. Big plum and prune notes, broody smoke and some blood orange, with very fruity notes of cherries, green apple, and oak.
Palate
Silky vanilla, hints of coconut, and heather peat smokiness. Creamy like coffee liqueur, with herbs, honey, lemon, and strawberry jam flavours. A big, bold whisky with rich plum and berries, a coarse peat carpet, and robust fruit and caramel notes.
Finish
Long, gentle, and smokey, coating the mouth and lingering with fruit, pepper, and peat. The unique Orkney peat is present, with a faint hint of char and a subtle note of pineapple.
