Description

This Lagavulin 1997 Jazz Festival 2012 is a 15-year-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, distilled on May 7th, 1997, and bottled in 2012 for the Islay Jazz Festival. It was drawn from a single refill sherry butt (Cask No. 1894) and bottled at a natural cask strength of 54.5% ABV. This limited edition release comprised 624 individually numbered bottles, available exclusively to personal visitors at the Lagavulin distillery. It is known for its rich, smoky, and maritime character, typical of Islay malts.

Nose
Buttery and fruity with almond nuttiness, sherry, sweet seaweed, wax polish, camphor, carbolic, and scented smoke. Notes of savoury sweetness, ham crisps, peat, apricots, dates, and a hint of swimming pools. Marine and fresh air with traces of iodine.
Palate
Sweet start with a big blast of peat smoke, creosote-like smoke, vanilla, and linseed oil. Savoury notes of bacon, ham, herbs, and a slight hint of Thai spices, balanced with creamy sweetness. Peat smoke mixes with sweet fruit accents, caramel cookies, pears, green apple, vanilla, cinnamon, orange peel, and smoked meat.
Finish
Lingering and long sweetness with a slight sourness, vanilla creaminess, and apricot. Smoky, salty coal tar finish with a full-bodied aftertaste.
