Description

The Lakes The Whiskymaker's Reserve No. 5 is the fifth release in The Lakes Distillery's award-winning Whiskymaker's Reserve series, an artistic exploration of oak and blending. This English single malt is matured in a combination of meticulously sourced Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, and red wine casks, comprising both Spanish and American oak. Inspired by the Cognac principle of élevage, the whiskymaker actively monitors and influences the maturation process, moving spirits between casks to develop complex layers of flavor. Bottled at 52% ABV, it is non-chill filtered and natural in color, showcasing a refined, sherry-led, and wood-forward style. This limited edition release aims for elegance and textural refinement, building on the success of its predecessors.

Perfumed and fruity with polished oak, red apples, chocolate, and hints of Devonshire cream. Other notes include juniper, strawberries, eucalyptus, rose petals, figs, sultanas, cranberries, toffee, dates, rum, tobacco, mint, ginger, stewed plum, raisin, dark chocolate candy, vanilla cream, savory oak spice, macerated red berries, rosewater, and mahogany.
Palate
Pecan and walnut baklava, baking spices, candied papaya, and hints of coffee. Strong oak and sherry influence with ginger, cloves, cinnamon, dates, raisins, nutmeg, dark chocolate, salted caramel, red fruits, deep berries, toffee pudding, coffee cake, and nuttiness. Full mouthfeel, thick and viscous.
Finish
Vibrant and creamy with toasted brown sugar. Drying and tannic with lingering spices, black pepper, chilli pepper, peppermint freshness, burnt caramel, coffee, dark chocolate, orange peel, treacle, plum pudding, and clove.
