Description
One of the world's most modern distilleries, Midleton of East County Cork, Ireland was built in 1975. Their distillery is a proverbial umbrella of a powerhouse, utilising three pot stills and three columns to produce a whopping 64 million litres of spirit each year for heavy hitters such as Jamesons, Paddy, Green Spot and Tullamore Dew to name but a few. The Midleton Dair Ghaelach Bluebell Forest series is the second in the Dair Ghaelach range, meaning 'Irish oak'. This exceptional whiskey is comprised of Single Pot Still distillates aged between 12-23 years, matured primarily in American oak Bourbon barrels, before being finished for 19 months in native virgin Irish oak casks harvested from 130-year-old trees in Bluebell Forest, Castle Blunden Estate, Co. Kilkenny. Each bottle can be traced back to one of six individual trees, with this particular bottle matured in oak from Tree No. 5. The felling of these trees was done sustainably to allow for regeneration of the forest.
