The Nikka whisky company was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, with the creation of his Yoichi distillery on the island of Hokkaido. Rich and sweet with vanilla, licorice, cedar wood, tobacco leaves, old leather, dark forest fruits, earthy smoke, burnt cake, tar, dried mushrooms, spices, and incense.
Palate
Punchy, savoury, leathery, walnuts, roasted pecans, deep earthy peat smoke, pepper, liquorice, anise, salt, bitter-sweet harmony of burnt fruit cake and dark chocolate, sourish tobacco leaves, citrus, grapefruit, and menthol.
Finish
Very long, smoky, chocolaty, dry oak, fruits, spices, sweet candy, honey, and a soft herbal touch.
