Description

There has been over five generations of the Morrison family involved in the whisky business including grocers, brokers, blenders, bottlers and distillers, making them one of Scotland's oldest whisky families. Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers is solely owned and operated by one of Scotland's oldest and most prominent whisky families, Jamie and Brian Morrison. It marks the Morrison family's return to distilling since Brian Morrison sold Morrison Bowmore Distillers, after nearly 25 years. Since 2017, they have started distilling their own single malt in Aberargie, Perthshire. Aptly named Aberargie Distillery, it is located on the family's 300 acre farm just outside of Perth. The Old Perth blend is a liquid tribute to the city it takes its name from. Originally created in the early 1900s by the Thomson family who were well-known grocers in the city. Sherry Bomb Whisky Appreciation Society
Nose
Sherry-soaked baked apples, husky-maltiness, dark sugar, dark chocolate, crème caramel, over-ripe grapes and a whiff of banana skins. There's also a pleasant minerally sourness to the aroma that integrates so well. Overall, it's fruity & clean with no alcohol burn.
Palate
Immediate explosion of rich toffee-sweetness supported with some gentle crushed peppercorn warmth (undiluted). The sweetness of the sherry comes to the fore and develops into a thicker caramelised-nuttiness that spreads across the tongue and roof of the mouth. The maltiness picked up on the nose appears before the sweetness returns with bags of ripe fruit and custard. The 52.3% ABV is well masked behind the explosion of flavour.
Finish
Insanely long, sweet and mouth-coating. The strength warms the mouth nicely allowing the flavours to develop and wash over every part of the tongue. I even get a note of crème caramel sprinkled with cereal right at the end.
