Description

The Singleton of Dufftown 12 Year Old is a single malt Scotch whisky produced at the Dufftown Distillery in Speyside, Scotland, established in 1895. It is a core expression of The Singleton brand, primarily marketed to European and African markets. This approachable and well-balanced whisky is matured for a minimum of 12 years in a combination of American and European oak casks, including ex-bourbon and seasoned PX/Oloroso sherry casks. The distillation process is slow and gentle, aiming to maximize fruitiness and smoothness, resulting in a 'luscious nectar' profile. It is bottled at 40% ABV and is known for its smooth, rich, and accessible flavor, making it an inviting introduction to Speyside whiskies.

Nose
Approachable and rich, with polished wood, toasted hazelnut, stewed fruits (baked apples), dried fruits (sweet dates), soft brown sugar, and a hint of liquorice. Water can bring out a sweeter, more direct Speyside character with pear drops and citrus fruits.
Palate
Sweetness and crunchy nuts impress first, followed by a smooth, fruity Speyside richness. Notes of orange taffy, vanilla, cream soda, blackcurrant, brown sugar, and espresso coffee are present. It has a thin, delicate, and oily texture, with pronounced fruitiness, especially apple, orange toffee, and roasted nuts.
Finish
Medium to long, elegantly drying and crisp, with a pleasant, sweetly nutty chew-ability. Faint fruits and candy flavors (corn syrup) remain, with some oaky bitterness.
