Description

A rich and smoky single malt from Danish whisky pioneers Stauning. This expression is made with barley from Jutland, floor-malted at the distillery, and smoked using locally cut peat and heather. It is double-distilled in small flame-heated pot stills and aged in a combination of first-fill bourbon, fortified wine (Madeira), Jamaican rum, and virgin American oak casks. The result is an elegant and refined whisky with a gentle smoky taste and a complex character that evokes the dunes, heath, and wind of the North Sea.

A pleasant aroma of roasted malt, juniper, baked apple, cinnamon, nutmeg, pine nuts, sultanas, and puff pastry, with a light touch of smoke and spice. Other notes include light smoke, vegetal, green apple, campfire smokiness, white fruit, wildflowers, chocolate-infused peat, cacao wood, citrus, tropical fruits, lemongrass, preserved citrus, raw honey, tobacco, roasted nuts, and baking spices.
Palate
Oily and calm, with a hint of pepper, salted caramel, malted biscuits, nutmeg, smoked wood, baked apple, pretzel, and a slight balsamic hint. Also light and thin with sharp wood smoke, leathery quality, cocoa, sweetened white bread, floral, vegetal/herbal, sweet, biscuits, chocolate, nuts, dry, peppery, fizziness, grainy, vanilla, honey, and leather.
Finish
Quite long and saline, with spices, baked bread, malt, and a light peat. Other notes include smoke, ash, charred coffee, apple skin, medium length, drier, spicier, dirt-kissed sugar cubes, and complex.
