Description

This is a very rare single malt whisky from Ardbeg distillery, distilled in 1976 and bottled in 2002 from a single sherry butt (Cask #2395) exclusively for the Japanese market. It was bottled at cask strength of 54.5% ABV and is non-chill filtered. Only 468 bottles were produced for this release.

Nose
Dry prunes, raisins, old leather and pipe smoke. Rich fruitcake with cranberries. Buckwheat honey, date syrup. Sweet smoke. Clove spice. Complex and beautiful. Sweetness is rich but not cloying.
Palate
Stronger peat feeling than the aroma. Delicious. A wonderful bittersweetness and powerful. Noble deliciousness. Peat has a farmy element reminiscent of 72 Brora. Creamy and melts on the tongue. Ashy, licorice, burnt hay, hint of orange peel. Warm aromatic smoke releases sweetness through the retro-nasal. Coffee candy, firm peat smoke. Excellent balance of peat and sherry.
Finish
Slightly dry, pleasant bitter throat. Bitter chocolate, roasted coffee beans, candy nectar. Cigar, peat feeling is elegantly integrated.
