Bowmore Gold Reef is a travel retail exclusive single malt, launched in 2014 as part of a trio alongside Black Rock and White Sands. It is named after the reef in front of the distillery, which glows golden in the sun. The whisky is matured predominantly in first-fill bourbon barrels, resulting in a profile rich in tropical fruits, vanilla, and gentle Islay peat smoke.

That keeps the sweetness from feeling one-note. The orange-mango finish with light peat sounds coherent, though the salty, oily edge may make this less of a straightforward fruit-led dram. A distinctive balance, rather than a spice-led one.
