Description

Cotswolds Harvest Series Golden Wold is the first limited-release whisky in the distillery's annual Harvest Series, based on the 2022 harvest. This English Single Malt Whisky is a marriage of ex-bourbon, STR red wine, and peated whisky casks, inspired by the picturesque Cotswolds landscape. Only 5,000 bottles were released, non-chill filtered and with no added colour, at a robust ABV of 52.5%. The presentation tubes feature original artwork by local artist Josephine Trotter. The Cotswolds Distillery was founded in 2013 by Daniel Szor and began producing whisky in 2014.

The listed Bourbon, STR red wine and peated casks make for an interesting combination. The notes keep peat gentle beside oak and cocoa, with brioche on the finish; that balance appeals to me.

At 52.5% ABV, this has a fairly concentrated-sounding mix of silky custard and warm baking spices, with peat kept gentle on the nose and in the background of the finish. That balance appeals to me, though the strength may not suit every preference.
