Description

A legendary vintage of Glenmorangie, the 1981 Sauternes Wood Finish was distilled in 1981 and bottled in 2002, having spent 21 years maturing. The final two years were spent in premier cru Château d'Yquem casks, making it the first Glenmorangie ever to be matured in white wine casks. This limited edition release of 4,000 individually numbered bottles is non-chill-filtered and presented in a wooden box. It is considered a predecessor to the acclaimed Nectar D'Or, showcasing Glenmorangie's early experimentation with innovative wood finishes.

Nose
Honeyed sweetness, tropical fruits, floral elegance, apricots, peaches, vanilla, and subtle Sauternes influence. Hints of wild berry fruits, apple crumble, custard, long-lasting vanilla notes, golden raisins, coconut, and background resinous oak. Complex yet not overwhelming, with lemon, sour red grapes, toffee, craisins, pear liqueur, and apple cider.
Palate
Velvety texture with honey, candied citrus, ripe mango, caramel, vanilla ice cream, orange zest, oak, spice, and a gentle warmth. Rich with caramelised banana, orange marmalade, melted vanilla ice cream, brandy, prune, dates, banana cream, and egg cream. Divinely rich, thick yet keenly balanced.
Finish
Lingering caress of sweetness and sophistication, with a lasting Sauternes wood finish. A touch of banana, oak, and a slight dryness, warm, fruity and grand.
