Description

I.W. Harper is a Kentucky straight bourbon, named "Gold Medal" due to the numerous awards it won in the late 1800s. The brand shut down under prohibition, but was later resurrected by United Distillers. This is a 4-year-old expression, bottled at 86 Proof (43% ABV) in a 75cl bottle.

Nose
Cinnamon spice, dry hickory nuts, floral deep rose scent and workshop wood. A very faint but persistent sweet vanilla undercurrent.
Palate
Sweet with vanilla sugar, buttercream frosting and pear juice, transitioning to a spicy backbone of white pepper, star anise, nutmeg, and old dry oak.
Finish
Spiciness transitions to mild astringency and a bit of mouth numbing. Oakiness lingers with abstract minerality.
