Nose
Sweet with dried apricots, creme brulee, brown sugar, and a lot of peat and smoke, often described as ashy. Very coastal and maritime with salt seaspray, seaweed, tar, and sweet, thick smoke. Notes of oranges, toasted wood, spearmint, creamy toffee, and Lagavulin's signature creosote. With water, it becomes greener with hints of pinewood, dry tobacco, and dried apples.
Palate
Rich and mouth-coating with astringency, pepper, oak, and peat. Sweet and slightly honeyed, revealing balanced smoky peat, fruit, and salt with a splash of water. Deep smoke, tar, and simpler sweetness of raisins.
Finish
Long, with tobacco and cigar smoke, ash, and oak. Drying but less so, with spices. Salty and peaty, becoming ashy and leaning towards herbs and grass with water. Maple syrup and charred, caramelized meat notes also present.
