Nose
Marmalade on rye toast, burnt ends, fresh apricot and tropical hints of mango and papaya. Sweet peat and BBQ, with stewed pears alongside buttery fudge and honey. A brininess floats about, and there's a faint tropical note every now and again too, quite fragrant and pleasing.
Palate
Roasted hazelnuts, new leather, sea spray, orange, peach and candied ginger. Even though it's heavily peated, it's quite restrained and controlled. There's a sweetness from the sauternes that is unmistakeable and well-balanced with the peat. Slightly oily on the mouth, with a crème brulee sensation of the singed sugary crust and the creamy custard beneath.
Finish
Simmering spices and a kick of caraway. A soft glowing warmth like allspice, medium in length and finishes with a faint sweetness at the back of the mouth. The gentle smoke lingers and lingers.
