Description

This Octomore Masterclass 08.3 is a 5-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from Bruichladdich, distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2017. It is part of the Octomore Eights series and is renowned as one of the most heavily peated whiskies ever, with a phenol level of 309.1ppm. Made from 100% Islay barley, it was matured in a combination of 56% first-fill ex-Bourbon American oak casks and 44% European oak casks that previously held Pauillac, Ventoux, Rhône, and Burgundy wines. This limited edition release consists of 18,000 bottles and is non-chill filtered with natural color, bottled at 61.2% ABV.

Nose
Rich, savoury smoke, with notes of chocolate covered fruits, white pepper, dried violets, toffee, vanilla syrup, honeyed pancakes with cinnamon, coastal notes, and tar. Hints of cherry, peach, and mango.
Palate
Intense peat and smoke, with a bold chili pepper hit. Underlying complexities of clotted cream, dried chiles, chocolate candy, and sweet fruitiness like peaches and cherries. A drying mouthfeel with notes of blackcurrants, scorched earth, and toasted wood.
Finish
Long and spicy, with burnt caramel, coffee roast, and tobacco leaves. Sweet notes of dark plum, orange, kiwi, and malted barley sweetness, alongside roasted coffee and burnt heather.
