Description

The Pulteney distillery was founded in 1826 by James Henderson in the historic Caithness fishing port of Wick. This is an exclusive Old Pulteney single malt whisky, drawn from a single second fill ex-bourbon cask, to celebrate Glasgow Airport's 50th anniversary. It was laid down to mature in 1990 and bottled in 2016. Only 150 bottles were made available at the airport's World Duty Free-operated World of Whiskies store.

Nose
Full and malty. Mature sawdusty American oak with sweet sherried fruit. Dense and deep with caster sugar and crumbly spice sprinkled apricots and apple. A maritime note balances beautifully. Some red and black fruits like red berries, black berries. There is a hint of menthol. And some mineral aspects. Then chocolate layered in a hint of peat. Dried fruits here too. Somewhat leathery.
Palate
Soft, sultana and sweet sherried fruit. Full, robust and malty with treacle, baked dark fruit and a light peat note. The salinity and citrus combine to add freshness on the middle. A faint hint of peat. Ripe pears. Followed by some mocca. Red fruits, like strawberries and raspberries and dried fruits too. Some lovely honey and chocolate.
Finish
Exceptionally long with the American oak returning. Chocolatey, spiced and maritime. Medium long, with some dried fruits in the mix, honey and there is this mint flavour.
