Description

A revered single malt distillery in Campbeltown that has operated since 1828. It is today owned by J&A Mitchell & Co who produce three single malt styles there. These are its flagship two-and-half times distilled Springbank, a heavily-peated malt known as Longrow, and the triple-distilled Hazelburn.

Maltiply Tasting Profile
Nose
Springbank's gentle giant. This dram is big and bold with notes of cured meat, barbecued beef jerky, clove, mint, iodine, oxo cube and tinned prunes all evident from the Oloroso cask maturation, while lobster creels hint at Springbank's characteristic maritime influence.
Palate
The peaty character is now evident with sooty kiln smoke and tobacco leaves prominent in this viscous tipple alongside prunes, walnuts, figs, Demerara sugar, cocoa powder and smoked meats.
Finish
The finish grows and develops with notes of soot, leather and walnuts prominent before easing off like the ebbing tide over one of Kintyre's pebble beaches.

Mint sits alongside cured meat and iodine, then peaty smoke, prunes and walnuts. That savory, sherry-fruit contrast sounds intriguing, though the bold smoky side may take the lead.

There’s a lot going on here, from savoury cured meat and prunes to sooty smoke and tobacco. It sounds bold and layered, with the easing finish bringing a welcome sense of restraint.

A 15-year-old Scottish single malt from Campbeltown, with the sherry-cask character set against a clearly peaty edge. The combination of prunes and figs with sooty kiln smoke and smoked meats gives it a more savoury, bracing character than a straightforwardly sweet sherry-led whisky. The maritime suggestion on the nose adds another layer without displacing those richer notes. That balance makes this a compelling fit for someone drawn to concentrated fruit alongside smoke, rather than a gentle, dessert-like style.
