Description
For a period, Campbeltown was the undisputed Whisky Capital of World, boasting over 30 distilleries operating simultaneously at its peak. Locally available peat, barley and coal, coupled with a quick steamship service to Glasgow meant this thriving industry lasted into the early 20th Century. Alas; ultimately (and perhaps inevitably) it proved unsustainable, and by 1935 the bubble had well and truly burst. This Springbank 1965 Local Barley Cask #9 is a 36-year-old official bottling, distilled in 1965 and bottled in 2001. It is part of the highly acclaimed 'Local Barley' series, which uses barley grown in the Campbeltown area, specifically from Machrimore farm for this release. Springbank is known for its unique '2.5 times' distillation technique and for performing every step of the whisky-making process on-site.
