Description

That Boutique-Y Whisky Company bottles Scotch single malt and grain whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with humorous puns presented in cultish comic-book style labels: the purpose is to tell the histories and stories of distilleries or prominent figures in the industry but in a new exciting way. It's not all fun and games though, as they were awarded World ... This is the first bottling of Karuizawa single malt Japanese whisky from That Boutique-y Whisky Company, aged for 19 years and limited to just 186 bottles worldwide. Karuizawa distillery closed its doors in 2000, making its remaining liquid highly sought-after.

Nose
Complex nose with an initial warmth and creamy notes - there's cocoa and oak, a pinch of spice and grapes, blackcurrant and raspberries. Syrupy dried fruit, rich earth, and bittersweet orange marmalade at first, with hints of rancio, worn leather, and ancient oak furniture. Gingernut biscuits, muscovado sugar, and dried herbs develop among marzipan and a little vanilla.
Palate
A fizz of spice that leaves the tongue tingling, with liquorice and caramel coming through. There's autumnal stewed fruits and a jammy fruitiness. The palate opens with an array of tropical fruit, Medjoul dates, and plenty of blackberry notes, which balance against drying oak spice, earth, and green Chartreuse. Oily chestnuts, dark chocolate, and more aromatic ginger emerge with time, as well as touches of white truffle, red apple, and game meats.
Finish
There's a dry salinity with lingering sweet hints - plums, raisins and a sprinkling of brown sugar. Wonderfully long, dry and bittersweet, with a final flourish of cinnamon bark after an age.
