Description

Kavalan Distillery was founded in 2005 on an idea of taking Scottish methods of making whisky and importing that expertise to Taiwan for a wholly-owned Taiwanese distillery. The distillery is situated in Yilan County, Taiwan, and uses water from the nearby Snow Mountain and Central Mountains. The Solist Vinho Barrique is fully matured in used American oak wine barrels that have been toasted and re-charred, resulting in a complex and multi-dimensional flavor profile.

Nose
A rich fusion of vanilla and caramelized sugars with dark chocolate on top. Ripe melon and mango together with kiwi and a delicate blend of citrus fruits burst. Pepper, sweet concentrated dried fruit, orange peel, dates, dried cherries, chocolate torte with raspberry sauce, cinnamon, aniseed, apple, winter spiced tea, and licorice.
Palate
Clean and complex, embodying the best in fine malt whiskies. Tart and tangy, juicy and mouth-watering, viscous like a rich sauce. Dark fruits, jammy plum, freshly sweet and warming, infused wood, apple, cinnamon, citrus, and tropical notes.
Finish
Long, mostly hot in the throat but with sweet corn. Syrupy with dark fruit, honey and allspice. An oriental finish with sweet spiced tea, drying wood, fresh and sweet wine influence, hints of white grapes and chocolate.
