Description

Murray McDavid was formed in 1996 by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin and Gordon Wright and was named after Reynier's grandparents Harriet Murray and Jock McDavid. It quickly became known for its irreverent tasting notes, edgy Gaelic slogan - 'Clachan a Choin' - and later for its ACEing process of finishing whisky in wine casks. They are based at Speyside's Coleburn distillery and in 2013 the company was sold to Aceo Ltd. This Macallan 1990 10 Year Old was bottled by Murray McDavid.

Nose
Gently sweet, clearly Sherried and honey-like, then biscuity, oaky vanilla- and marzipan-like, with background scents of wood resin and butterscotch. Orange marmalade across buttery toast, with a hint of honey sweetness. Fruity, creamy notes reminiscent of strawberry ice cream.
Palate
Sweet, oaky and a touch hot and prickly; aggressive notes of bittersweet chocolate and cocoa. Initially, a slightly tart fruitiness, strawberries and raspberries, which becomes sweeter until it becomes like drinking strawberry blancmange. Spicy notes of ginger, clove, and cinnamon. Sherry influence present.
Finish
Honey sweet, piquant and spirity. Initial hint of butter on malted bread quickly dissipates to give a long drying finish with an oaky vanilla note.
