Description

A Welsh whisky distillery that revived the nation's distilling heritage when it first opened in 2000, the first in Wales for over a hundred years. It was commissioned by The Welsh Whisky Company and makes use of a unique and specially designed Faraday still to produce its whisky. This expression, 'Aur Cymru' (Welsh Gold), is matured in ex-bourbon barrels and finished in Madeira wine casks, delivering rich fruit and vanilla notes. It is bottled at 46% ABV and is a flagship expression for Penderyn.

Intense aromatics, bright and rich with honey, sweet vanilla frosted cornflakes, green fruits of gooseberries, langsat, pink guavas, maltose candy, liquorice, black cherry, raisins, cream toffee, marzipan, grapefruit citrus, fresh heather, floral honey, juicy apple, Meyer Lemon, candied almonds, underripe pineapple, cereal milk, fresh apple and pear, nutty notes, and a faint yeasty edge.
Palate
Richness with honey, musky langsat green tropical fruits, gooseberries, pink guavas, a kick of cinnamon and cloves, sweet mid-mouth warmth, cantaloupe, vanilla, hint of celery, crisp and clean, rounded sweetness balanced by an appetizing dryness, warm spice (nutmeg and cinnamon), dried fruit, cereal sweetness, orange and toasted almond.
Finish
Medium-to-long, with tropical fruit, raisins, and vanilla persisting. A dry mid-finish transitions into lingering honey and vanilla that slowly fades. Bitter-sweetness, short clean finish, cinnamon, candied ginger, bitter almond oak.
