Description

A very special bottling of Springbank whisky. This was bottled in 2008 for the Springbank Society, commemorating the 180th anniversary of Springbank distillery. It's a marriage of two refill sherry casks filled in 1993 and 1997 and bottled in 2008. The younger of the two casks was distilled in May 1997 making this an 11 year old whisky.

This has a poised kind of appeal: elegant, precise aromas lead into a palate described as rich and full-bodied, while the finish is long, delicate and complex. That contrast between weight on the palate and a more delicate close is the part that stands out to me. At 48.7% ABV, the strength is clearly stated, but the character here sounds more about balance and detail than force. A thoughtful-sounding Campbeltown single malt.
