Description

This limited edition release of 60,000 bottles was bottled in 2005 to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the Talisker distillery, which was founded in 1830. It is a complex vatting of Talisker whiskies of various ages, with some components rumored to be over 20 years old, and ranging from a minimum of 10 years up to 35 years. The whisky is a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. It carries no age statement.

Nose
Extremely fresh, on sea air and light toffee, with distant peat smoke, coastal and caramelly notes, plum jam, quince jelly, very ripe apricots, hints of apple skins, cider, and white wine.
Palate
Immediate sweet flash of coconut, medicinal, smouldering smoke, maritime notes, embers of a dead wood fire, smooth, sweet and peppery, citrusy notes (sugared lemon juice, tangerines), some peat, tea, herbal tea, liquorice, hints of toffee, and passion fruit.
Finish
Increasingly spicy, big, maritime, robust and lingering, subtle and liquorous when diluted, with smoke driving through. Medium long, very enjoyable, no burn, very smooth and balanced.
