Description

Kanosuke Artist Edition #005 is the fifth and final release in the distillery's Five Elements series, representing 'Water'. Featuring label artwork by artist Alexander Kori Girard, the vatting is centered around three distinct Mizunara oak cask elements—unpeated spirit, peated spirit, and Mizunara finish—harmonized with subtle peat via slow dilution.

The gentle peat and citrus-peel finish are the part that catches my eye; apricot and white peach give the palate a bright, soft counterpoint. It sounds like a relaxed, balanced combination.

The Mizunara cask is an interesting detail, but oak does not have a clear place in the described character. Apple, cinnamon and sandalwood lead into apricot, white peach and kumquat, while the finish brings honeyed sweetness, citrus peel and a gentle trace of peat. That balance sounds appealing, though the oak connection feels less defined.

Mizunara cask gives this a clear wood-led frame, but the documented character is more aromatic spice and fruit than a plainly stated oak flavour. Sandalwood and cinnamon offer a possible bridge to that wood influence, while apple, peach and kumquat keep the picture bright. The gentle honeyed sweetness and lingering peat add contrast without taking over. I find that balance appealing, though I’d have liked the oak itself to be more clearly expressed in the description.
